Millions of Americans have diabetes. With proper dental care and control of blood sugar levels, many diabetic patients are able to maintain a healthy mouth.People with diabetes, especially those whose blood glucose (sugar) levels aare poorly controlled, are more likely to develop gum disease and lose teeth. Like all infections, gum disease may cause blood sugar levels to rise and make diabetes harder to control. Other mouth problems linked to diabetes include: thrush, an infection caused by fungus that grows in the mouth, and dry mouth, which can cause sorenedd, ulcers, infections and cavaties. Since you need strong teeth for chewing, it’s very important to try to keep your teeth for a lifetime.
